Fort Boise Military Cemetary

Katie and I got up early on Memorial Day and went out to the Fort Boise Military Cemetery. It was a cool morning with lots of joggers and bicyclists getting an early start before the heat! We had the cemetery to ours selves with plenty of time to wander. I love looking at the old tombstones and thinking about those men and women who gave their lives for our defense.

Don't you just want to follow along this road and see where it leads?

There is a group of headstones all by themselves on one side of the cemetery that has always intrigued me. There is the dad who was a major and several children of various ages. Was there an illness or Indian attack? My maternal grandfather was a Collins -these folks could be family.

This sight is just as haunting here as it was at Gettysburg and Antetum.

The fields surrounding the cemetery were covered with wild bachelor buttons waving in the breeze.

I am glad that we have this reminder in our own backyard....

  1. Thanks so much for asking me to come along. It was so peaceful up there early in the morning. Such a somber reminder of those that have gone before us...often giving up their lives to protect our rights.
